Annetta Maurine Lupton, 95, of San Angelo, went to be with the Lord on December 26, 2015. Annetta was born on April 21, 1920, in Decatur, Texas, to Robert Ray Lacey and wife Laura McElreath Lacey. She was the oldest of four children, all of whom remained very close throughout the years. She spent the first few years of her life with her family at her grandfather’s farm in Decatur. Her family moved westward, eventually settling in Colorado City, Texas. She graduated from Colorado City High School as salutatorian while holding the office of class president in 1937. It was during those final high school years that she met James B. (Skinny) Lupton, to whom she was later married for almost 60 years. After graduation, Annetta attended business school in Austin, Texas, residing and attending school close to the Capitol grounds. After graduation, she moved back to Colorado City, Texas and worked for the Chamber of Commerce. James continued to court Annetta, and on April 9, Easter Sunday, in 1939, James and Annetta were married at the First Methodist Church in Colorado, Texas. After marrying, they settled in Midland, Texas, where James continued working in the paint and glass business. James enlisted in the U.S Navy in 1941. Annetta worked for a brief time in Midland for the military before moving to Fort Worth to join her family while the war continued. She and other family members worked for Consolidated Industries in Fort Worth, a factory producing materials to meet the war’s demands. After the war, James and Annetta again settled in Midland, where James continued in the glass business. It was during those years that the couple’s first two of three boys were born, James Robert Lupton, and David Frank Lupton. The glass business, however, provided an opportunity in San Angelo, where James would become co-owner and president of Angelo Glass and Mirror, so the family moved to San Angelo in 1952. It was during those years to follow that the third son was born, Stephen Ray Lupton. James and Annetta became members of First Methodist Church of San Angelo where Annetta joined the Ruth Sunday School Class, of which she was a member for over 60 years often serving as president. In addition to raising three boys, Annetta became active in the Opti-Mrs. Club, an auxiliary to the Downtown Optimist Club, of which James was a member where she and other members raised funds through a “bridge marathon” for the benefit of West Texas Boys Ranch. Being the good mother of three boys, she attended countless sports events and learned to enjoy sports in general. Many years, the family vacation consisted of a trip to Houston to see the Houston Astros and to the horse races in Ruidoso. The Dallas Cowboys games were also special to James and Annetta, with their attending almost every home game for many years. She was a perfect wife, mother and grandmother (Nonnie). She was always well dressed, gracious in her surroundings and in her relationships with others. She was a true Southern jewel, always displaying an exemplary role for her family and friends. Annetta was preceded in death by her husband, James B. Lupton, and her brother, Robert Ray Lacey Jr. She is survived by her brother, Warren Lacey and wife, Mary of Mansfield, and sister, Joyce Gibson of Mansfield. She is also survived by her three sons: Jim Lupton and wife Patti of Lubbock, David Lupton and wife LuAnn of San Angelo, Steve Lupton and wife Margaret of San Angelo, and seven grandchildren: Matt Lupton and wife Courtney of Dallas, Chad Lupton and wife Trish of San Angelo, Becca Williams and husband Lal of Lubbock, Lacey Lake and husband Shane of Austin, Ryan Lupton and wife Holly of San Angelo, Georgia Lupton and Philip Lupton, both of San Angelo. She is also survived by eight great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. The family wishes to thank all of the caregivers who have helped Annetta in her last years, including the staff of Baptist Memorial’s Allison house for their loving care. Annetta would have wished for any memorials to be sent to First United Methodist Church, 37 E. Beauregard, San Angelo, Texas 76904, West Texas Boys Ranch, 10223 Boys Ranch Road, San Angelo, 76904-9989 or your favorite charity. Private family burial services will be held.
