Bennie Reece Johnson

Elder Bennie Reece Johnson was born in Douglasville, Texas on June 25, 1949 to the late Mrs. Opal Smith and Rev. M.C. Jiles. Bennie graduated in Linden, Texas then moved to Terrell, Texas. In 1996 Bennie moved to San Angelo where he met and married Debra Fowler in 1997. He attended Deliverance Tabernacle Church of God in Christ, and in 2002 they joined the Miracle Temple Church of God In Christ family. Bennie was a hard-working man and was known as “The Honey Do Man” for the variety of jobs he was able to do. Bennie professed God to be his Lord and Savior. He loved to preach and sing and known for his humor. He was one of the singers of the gospel group “Men of the Gospel” Bennie always dreamed of running a drug and alcohol rehab center to help those that struggled with tormenting addictions. In 2013 Bennie was struck with a major stoke leaving him paralyzed and residing in a nursing home facility. A lot of prayer plus many miracles happened there. He was preceded in death by his parents, a mother-in-law Dorothy McNally and two sisters, Bennie Lois Zanders (his twin sister) and Mary Jane Hall, his childhood best friend Jimmie Lawrence Harrison, Sr., and nephew/brother Artis “Pokey” Henderson. He is survived by his loving wife, Debra Johnson, son, Bennie Johnson, Jr., step-daughter, Lekeshia Washington, sister Dalene (Burnest) Rhodes, close nieces Mildred Henderson, Dana Simmons and Sheila Hall; god-daughters Tyra Mitchell, and Ayrika Jones; and a host of other nieces, nephews, family and friends. Bennie was loved and will be truly missed. The Funeral Service will be Monday, December 7, 2020 at Harper Funeral Home with Superintendent Johnny Allen officiating. Interment will follow at Fairmount Cemetery. The family respectfully requests that everyone attending the service wear a mask and practice proper social distance during this time. The family also would like to extend their sincerest thanks and appreciation to the staff at Park Plaza Nursing Center, Kindred Hospice, St. Gabriel’s Hospice and Harper Funeral Home for all of the loving care shown to Bennie.
