Bertie Mae Mason

August 15, 1933 — October 17, 2021

Bertie Mason, 88, passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of October 17, 2021 in San Angelo, Texas. Bertie, the first child of Earl and Nannie Barnes, was born August 15, 1933 in San Angelo where she was raised and educated. Her adult life and work took her all across Texas, but she returned to her beloved hometown as soon as possible. Bertie married Ray Jackson Mason. She had three sons--Robert, James and David. Bertie was first and foremost a mother and wife, but she always worked to help support her family. However, when her boys were grown and on their own, she went to college, earned a degree in education, and went on to teach first grade at Pearsall Elementary School. Bertie loved God and was an active member of the United Methodist Church everywhere she lived. She was also a member the Homemaker’s Club, the Button Club, and the Western Hills Garden Club for many years. Bertie will be dearly missed and always remembered. Bertie was predeceased by her parents, Earl Burt Barnes Sr. and Nannie May Dubose Barnes; siblings, Earl Barnes, Jr., Carl Barnes, Curtis James, Lilian Clark, and Gracie Whitlock; her husband, Ray Jackson Mason; and her sons, Robert Allen Mason and David Ray Mason. She is survived by her sister, Floy (Danny) Porter; her son James Mason and wife Mary Mason, daughter-in-law Allison Mason; her grandchildren Trevor Mason and Savannah Long, and many cousins, nieces, and nephews. The graveside service will be held on November 6th at 10:30 at Fairmount Cemetery, and will be followed by a celebration of Bertie’s life at Wesley Trinity United Methodist Church at 11:30
