Maria L. Diaz

Maria L. Diaz, 66, of San Angelo, passed away May 5, 2019 surrounded by her family after a four-year battle with cancer. She was born to Jose and Delfina (Gutierrez) Lopez, December 10, 1952 in Las Iglesias, Coahuila, Mexico. She married the love of her life, Jose Diaz, in 1972, and spent their life together in San Angelo. She retired at the age of 55, after working at Ethicon for 30 years. Maria always had a green thumb, and enjoyed watering and caring for her rosebushes. While her family was young, she enjoyed taking vacations and road trips. She enjoyed spending time with her parents and siblings, as well as her brothers and sisters in Christ. She was a longtime member of la Iglesia de Cristo since 1976. She loved to sing hymns and had a beautiful voice. Her faith in God remained strong through her illness. She was a true follower of Christ, and led a good example for those around her. Maria was preceded in death by her father, Jose Lopez, and one brother, Enrique Lopez. She leaves her husband of 47 years, Jose Diaz; her son, Joe Diaz and wife Rosie; her daughters, Noemi Martinez and Viviana Diaz; and four grandchildren: Cain Hernandez, Sable Hernandez, Priscilla Diaz, and Tracy Diaz; her mother Delfina Lopez; her sisters: Josefina and Homero De La Cerda, Natalia and Roman Zuniga, Julia and Crispin Martinez; her brothers: Alejandro and Consuelo Lopez, Benancio and Yolanda Lopez; and countless nieces and nephews. A viewing service will be held on Tuesday, May, 7, 2019 from 7:00-9:00 p.m. at Harper Funeral Home. The prayer services will be at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, May 8th in the Harper Chapel with burial to follow at Miles Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Cain Hernandez, Ivan Franco, Johan Franco, Jair Franco, Saul Villagomez, and Brandon Villagomez.
