Rafael "Ray" Gonzales

Rafael Ramon (Ray) Gonzales of San Angelo, TX, age 65, passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 10th, 2022, at Shannon Hospital in San Angelo, TX. Ray was born on May 4th, 1956, at Ballinger Memorial Hospital to Rafael and Emma Gonzales in Ballinger, TX. He was a 1975 graduate of Ballinger High School. Ray worked as a contractor at R&S Construction for over 24 years. Ray was very much an outdoorsman where he spent time fishing, hunting, swimming, woodworking, and barbecuing for his family and friends. Ray will always be remembered for his uncanny way of making people around him laugh while sharing stories of his youth along with his large infectious smile. Ray happily spent out the remaining days of his life with his partner Heather Wilson. Ray is survived by his daughter and sons, Rachel Y. (Eddie) Mata, Matthew Gonzales, Nicholas Gonzales, Garrett Gonzales; his mother, Emma Gonzales; a brother, Julian Gonzales; three sisters, Linda Ruiz Gonzales, Amelia Whitsel, Yvonne Trevino; Grandson, Joshua Mata; many nieces and nephews; partner, Heather Wilson; Heather’s daughter Elise Woods; grandchildren Jaxon and Bailey who affectionally knew him as “Boom”. Family, friends and others who knew Ray are invited to the graveside service on Monday, February 14, 2022, at 2:00 PM at Johnson’s Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens.
