Alfred C. "Rusty" Clayton

March 20, 1943 — June 12, 2018

A.C. “Rusty” Clayton passed June 12, 2018 at his home in Christoval, TX after a brief illness. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Judy Clayton, a son, James Franklin Clayton; grandchildren, Makendree, Brydon, and Mason; great granddaughter, Aubree; brother, Roy Clayton; brother-in-law Pete Sandel and spouse Nicole James; niece, Julie Carruthers; grand-niece, Lily Walts and nephew, Peter Sandel and numerous others. He was preceded in death by daughter, Renee, his parents and 11 siblings. Rusty was born March 20, 1943 to James William Clayton and Jessie Seely Clayton in Lovington, New Mexico and was the youngest of 13 children. Soon after, his family moved to Arkansas. His early life was spent working on his parents’ farm in Arkansas. In his teens, he started working in the oilfield, first as a floor hand, then as an operator of a pulling unit. From there, he went moved up to a Field Supervisor, Operations Manager, and Ultimately co-owner of Globe Well Service, an oil and gas servicing company and Strippers Ltd. In Big Lake, TX During his 45 plus years in the West Texas Oilfields, he became known as the “Consummate Professional” in all phases of oil and gas well servicing operations. He was widely respected for his knowledge, skill and common-sense approach to solving the myriad of problems associated with oil and gas well servicing operations. He was a friend first and boss second to the many employees he worked with over the years and was considered by all of them as a person who would teach and show them how to do the job required and do it with respect by all those who knew him. He was known for compassion, calmness, and his loving spirit. His wife, Judy, was the absolute love of his life, and his thoughts and efforts were to take care of her up until the day he passed. He loved his son Jamie and all his grandchildren with a passion and was blessed with his little great granddaughter as well. Rusty was a Master Mason and member of the Scottish Rite and Shrine. He will be missed and is in a better place now with no pain. Say not in grief; “He is no more” but live in thankfulness that he was. The family requests that in lieu of flowers that donations be made to a favorite charity or to the Children’s Hospital. A visitation will be held at Harper Funeral Home on Thursday June 14, 2018 from 2-4 PM. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 AM, Friday June 15, 2018 at Glen Rest Cemetery in Big Lake, TX. Services are under the direction of Harper Funeral Home in San Angelo.
