Bill Somers Hall of San Angelo, Texas passed away on June 16, 2017 in Austin, Texas at the age of 87. He was born in Wilson, Oklahoma on May 1, 1930 to Sam Wayne and Marie Hall. He spent his childhood in Wilson and Ardmore, Oklahoma and subsequently moved to Sherman, Texas as his father moved for his employment after the Depression. He enlisted in the United States Marines at the age of 16 to help support his family. He was honored to be sent to the Sea School as a Marine and was stationed aboard the USS Boxer aircraft carrier prior to the Korean War. Bill was very proud of his service in the Marines and reenlisted. After completing his military service, he attended North Texas State University where he met his future wife Barbara Jean Borger, from San Angelo, Texas, on a blind date. They were married on January 5, 1954 in Denton, Texas. Bill was a very social person and excelled in relationships with others. He never met a stranger. He was a story teller and often told stories about his life including his childhood in Wilson and being in the Trojan fraternity at North Texas with his brother. If you were with him for over two minutes, he had you laughing. This talent led him into advertising and sales where he worked at the San Angelo Standard-Times and in insurance sales. Subsequently, he found his perfect job working for General Telephone Directory Company as a Yellow Page salesman for over 20 years. He traveled throughout Texas for his job on a weekly basis sacrificing time with his family yet providing them with a secure home. He was an avid golfer and played every chance he could get weather permitting in San Angelo at Santa Fe, Bentwood, Quicksand, and most frequently Riverside golf courses. Even after his health limited his capacity to play, he still drove to the course to visit with his fellow golfing buddies. And, he rarely missed his daily beer. Bill is survived by daughter Jan Trantham and husband, Sam, of Lakeway, Texas; son Jimmy Alan Hall of Wimberley, Texas; and son Jeffrey Hall and wife, Tricia of Austin, Texas; his brother, Jerry Hall of Georgetown, Texas; six grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren. His wife Barbara Jean Hall passed away on April 24, 2017. A double memorial service celebrating them will be held on Saturday, July 1, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. at Harper Funeral Home with a private Interment to follow the service. Memorial gifts can be made to the charity of your choice. Family and friends may share condolences and sign the online register book at www.harper-funeralhome.com.
