Billie Mahler

Billie Lee Stewart Mahler died Friday, May 5, 2017. Her parents, Ralph and Bonnie Stewart have preceded her in death. She is survived by her husband, Richard and two sons, Stewart and Bruce and a sister, Robeleen Moore and brother in law Billy Hoyt Moore of Corsicana, Texas. A private family graveside burial is planned. A native of Nacogdoches, Texas and a graduate from Nacogdoches High School, she is a graduate of Stephen F. Austin University with the Bachelor of Sciences in Business with a Secondary Teaching Certification. Following graduation, she taught at Splendora High School, Splendora, Texas and Carlisle High School, Price, Texas. Later she attainted an Elementary Teaching Certification from Texas Christian University and taught at Glencrest Elementary, Ft. Worth, Texas. Upon graduation from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary with the Master of Education, she met and married Richard L. Mahler, a ministerial student at S.W.B.S. They were married January 18, 1955 at First Baptist Church, Nacogdoches, Texas. Following Richard’s graduation from S.W.B.S., they embarked upon a life together in full-time Christian service as Richard served in the pastorate, U.S. Air Force Chaplaincy and Texas MHMR Chaplaincy. Before coming to Goodfellow AFB, they had lived in Colorado, Indian Springs AFB Nevada, Nellis AFB, Nevada and Incirlik AB, Turkey. Making their home in San Angelo, Texas, Billie taught at Alta Loma Elementary School for 22 years, and retired in 1993. Billie also taught the Adult Ladies Sunday school at Belmore for 10 years.
