Billye Ruth DeLong died Tuesday, January 22. She was born in Abilene, Texas, October 28, 1941, to William M. DeLong and Lillian Ruth Rouse DeLong. Billye resided in San Angelo from the time she was four until she graduated from San Angelo College in 1961. She was a member of the first class to graduate from San Angelo Central High School in 1959. She continued her education at the University of Houston, receiving her degree in Psychology and Chemistry. Billye received her accounting training at Memphis State. Her professional field was accounting. She was the Head of the Tax Department of a conglomerate in Dallas, before moving to Colorado to become the Accounting Manager for a computer mapping company in Denver. In 1993, Billye accepted a position as the Accounting Manager of CompuSys/Erisa. Later she was transferred to New Mexico where she retired. In 2015, she returned to San Angelo because of illness. She started working for Louis Rork soon after she settled in San Angelo and was still working there when she died. The Billye we know and remember was fun-loving and adventurous. She was a certified scuba diver and she loved to travel. Cooking was one of her hobbies, and she was always willing to share. She also dabbled in photography. The loves of her life were her precious dogs Angel and Tazzy. Angel predeceased her and Tazzy died with her. Billye’s known survivors are her son Christopher Scott Campbell of Florida; a sister Billie Ann Lunsford and husband Doug of Midland, TX; their two sons D. Lance Lunsford and wife Michelle of Austin, TX; and Donnie Lunsford and wife Meghan of San Angelo, and their daughter Lori Woods and husband Tripp of Simpsonville SC. Billye also has a sister Linda Glasser, and husband Don of San Angelo, who has two sons Waymon Tankersley of San Angelo and Ladelle and wife Kristy, and one daughter Kimberley Sims of Austin, TX. She has cousins Wanda Richardson of San Antonio, TX, Jack Skinner and wife Linda of Butte, MT, Doris Brazeal of San Angelo, Barbara Becknell of San Angelo, Donny Rouse of San Angelo, Margaret Rouse of Big Spring, and Glen Skinner and wife Lisa of Brazoria, TX. A memorial service for Billye will be held Friday, February 2, at 10:00 am, in the First Baptist Church Chapel, with Dr. James Hassell officiating.
