Calvin Felix Hoelscher, 82, passed away on Friday, January 29, 2016. Calvin was born on January 3, 1934 to P.C. (Pope) and Rosalie Braden Hoelscher near Wall, Texas where he has lived his whole life on the family farm. He was a member of the St. Ambrose Catholic Church. Calvin attended Wall School through the 10th grade and graduated from San Angelo High School in 1951. He served on the Wall School Board for 9 years. On April 11, 1955, he married LaVerne Wachsmann in Rowena, Texas. They were blessed with two children, Michael and Karen. Calvin worked alongside his father running the family’s water well drilling and pump service business known as Hoelscher Pump and Supply. During the drought of the 1950’s their work quickly spread from Tom Green County to Glasscock and Reagan Counties. Their business continued to grow servicing numerous farmers, ranchers, commercial businesses, and residential customers throughout the Concho Valley, Hill Country and Western areas of Texas. In 1970, Calvin built a cotton gin on his farm known as Hoelscher’s Wall Gin where the family processed their own cotton. He continued to operate the gin until 1995. Even after his retirement when his son Michael took over the farming and water well business, Calvin enjoyed being in the shop visiting “for hours” with the many customers. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, LaVerne; children Michael Hoelscher and wife Betty Latzel Hoelscher of Wall and Karen Hoelscher Hodges and husband Wesley Hodges of Sterling City; six grandchildren, LaTrisha Hoelscher Hobler and husband Heath Hobler, Morgan Hoelscher Henry and husband Jason Henry, Tiffany Hoelscher, Courtney Hodges, Kalyn Hodges, and Kade Hodges; four great grandchildren Braelyn Hobler, Jolee Hobler, Heidi Hobler, and McKinley Henry; sister Eunice Hoelscher Hohensee and husband David Hohensee; brother-in-law James Wachsmann, and several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, P.C. and Rosalie Hoelscher. Pallbearers will be David Hoelscher, Floyd Parks, Steven Jansa, Michael Michulik, Bernie Fuchs, and Ethan West. The funeral mass will be held at St. Ambrose Catholic Church at 10 a.m. on Monday with burial following at the St. Ambrose Catholic Cemetery. Funeral arrangements will be through Harper Funeral Home in San Angelo, Texas.
