David Wayne Murphy was born May 5, 1954 in Lubbock, Texas. He died September 30, 2018 at his home in San Angelo, Texas after a long battle with diabetes at 64 years old. He grew up in Brownfield, Texas where he attended Brownfield High School and Texas Tech University. He married Brenda “Bug” Matthews on October 29, 1976 and spent 42 years together. He was a master plumber by trade for 37 years and owned a plumbing company in Post from 1980-1986. He and Brenda lived and worked in Lubbock for more than 30 years and recently moved to San Angelo to spend more time with the grandchildren. David also spent 36 years as a Little League and sports umpire culminating with home plate umpire at the Little League World Series in 2005. David was a member of the Southgate Church of Christ. He is survived by his wife Brenda “Bug” Murphy of San Angelo, his son Chad Murphy and wife Amy of San Angelo, his daughter Mandee Kennedy and husband Jason of San Angelo, and his grandchildren Jaxson, Khloe, and Kooper Kennedy and Maddux Murphy. He is also survived by his mother, Iris Wynelle Murphy of Brownfield and his brother Sammy Murphy and wife Patricia of Lovington, New Mexico; brother Mike Murphy and wife Pattie of Greenville, South Carolina; and sister Teresa Pendergrass and husband Brent of Lubbock, Texas. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews, and his mother in-law, Reba Matthews; sister-in-law, Jalain Sandlin and brother-in-Law, Corky Matthews. He was preceded in death by his father Wendell Dean Murphy. To respect David’s wishes, no memorial service will be scheduled. In lieu of flowers, David requested donations be made to the San Angelo Christian Academy, 518 Country Club Rd, San Angelo, Texas 76904.
