Donald "Gene" Shields, Sr.

Gene Shields passed from this life on Tuesday, March 14, 2017 at home in the care of Hospice. He was born on July 26, 1930 to Jesse and Frankye Shields in Gainesville, Texas. He married Mary Louise Davis on August 20, 1950. He spent his entire career as “the best neon glass blower in Texas” and a sign maker. Gene is survived by his daughters, Helen Ray and Ron, Janie Alonzo and Joe, son, Don Shields and Julie. Survived also by one granddaughter, Sacha Nobles and four grandsons, Cameron McSpadden, Jeremy and Bryan Shields, and Aaron Alonzo, three great granddaughters, six great grandsons and 1 great great granddaughter, his sister, June Dickerman, many step grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, his parents, his twin brother Ronald Dean, daughter-in-law Dian Shields and one grandson Jesse Shields. A visitation is scheduled for Friday, March 17, 2017 from 5:00 – 7:00 PM at Harper Funeral Home. Service will be Saturday, March 18, 2017 at 2:00 PM also at Harper Funeral Home. Pallbearers will be Cameron McSpadden, Jeremy, Bryan and Michael Shields, Aaron Alonzo, and Jaedon Nobles.
