Doyle Rushing Sheffield of San Angelo, Texas passed away peacefully on October 31, 2017 at the age of 88. He was born to R.O. Sheffield and Pauline Miller Sheffield on March 12, 1929 in Brown County near Brookesmith. When Rushing was only an infant, the family moved to Tom Green County where he spent his life. Rushing attended Central High School and Angelo Junior College. In 1952, Rushing married his loving wife, Gloria Mae Glenn, in San Angelo, Texas. Following his education, Rushing ranched in Upton County, Pecos County and Tom Green County where he raised registered sheep and Hereford cattle. Rushing received numerous awards and recognitions. In 1960, he received Outstanding Young Farmer of the Year. Rushing was Sales Manager for the Rambouillet Sheep Breeders Association. He also served several years as the superintendent of the Sheep Division of the San Angelo Stock Show and Rodeo. Rushing also very much enjoyed the time he spent serving on the Concho Valley Boy Scout Council. In 1964, Rushing went into business for himself selling veterinarian animal health products and herbicides. He operated his own company until he retired in 1996. Rushing enjoyed flying and flew his own plane until retirement. After retirement, Rushing spent most of his time on the golf course. He enjoyed playing golf with many of his friends at San Angelo Country Club and Alto Lakes Country Club in New Mexico. Mr. Sheffield is survived by his wife of 65 years, Gloria Sheffield. His daughter Valerie Warneke, son-in-law Jamey Warneke, and his grandchildren, which he adored, Jenna and Ryan Warneke. He is also survived by his close companion, “Lexie Dog”. He was preceded in death by his parents, R.O. and Pauline Sheffield, sister, Stevie Ray Sheffield, brother, Billy Carl Sheffield and son Doyle Lee Sheffield. Rushing will always be remembered as having a heart as big as his personality. A visitation will be held Thursday, November 2, 2017 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Harper Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held Friday November 3 at 11:00 AM at Harper Funeral Home. In Lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Meals for the Elderly, Hospice of San Angelo or a Charity of your choice.
