Earl Wayne Shahan

Earl Wayne Shahan, 87, of San Angelo, TX went into the light of heaven on Sunday, July 16, 2017 at Shannon Hospital. Earl was born in San Angelo on April 11, 1930 to Roy Bynum Shahan and Gertrude Hagelstein Shahan. Earl served in the Army during the Korean War at Ft. Sill, OK from 1948 – 1951. He then went to the University of Texas and after graduating, started his career as a geologist with Exxon Co., U.S.A. In 1991, with a successful 36-year career behind him, he and his wife Gail retired in San Angelo. With nearly daily trips to the San Angelo Country Club for golf, fishing in Alaska, fly fishing in Colorado and New Mexico, hunting in Texas, Colorado, Idaho, and New Mexico – retirement was a success too. Earl is survived by his wife Gail Arnecke Shahan, two sons, David Shahan of Sarasota, FL., and Toby Shahan and wife Sue Anne of Ft. Worth, TX. He is also survived by siblings Norman Shahan and wife Rebecca of Lakeway, TX, Glenn Shahan and wife Linda of Killeen, TX., and Helen Shahan Adams of The Hills, TX. He also leaves behind six grandchildren and five great granddaughters. Earl was preceded in death by his parents, and a daughter Cynthia Claire Shahan. The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses, CNA’s, and therapists at Senior Care and at Shannon Hospital for their wonderful care and kindness they gave to Earl. There will be a graveside memorial at Fairmount Cemetery on Wednesday, July 19, 2017 at 11:00 am. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in memory of Earl may be made to Angelo State University Athletics, ASU Station #11023, San Angelo, TX 76909.
