Floyd Dewitt

March 1, 1939 — April 9, 2025

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Floyd DeWitt, who left this world peacefully on April 09, 2025, at the age of 86. A beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and great-great-grandfather, he was surrounded by family during his final moments.

Born on March 1, 1939, in Gonzales County Texas, Floyd lived a full and vibrant life. He was known for his unwavering kindness, sense of humor, practical jokes, and his ability to bring joy to those around him. His legacy will live on through his family and the countless lives he touched.

The beloved family members that preceded him in death were his loving wife Gladys DeWitt; son, Floyd DeWitt Jr.; parents Millard and Maeola DeWitt; and siblings Millard DeWitt Jr., Langston DeWitt (Dorethea), Willie DeWitt, Iris Evans (Elvin), his sister Marie.

He is survived by his loving brother, Delarnce DeWitt (Billie); two devoted sons, Douglas DeWitt and Anthony DeWitt (John); and a cherished group of grandchildren, Stephen DeWitt, Iris DeWitt, and Sharae Castañeda-DeWitt (Saul). His great-grandchildren, Nishah DeWitt (CJ), Demarcus Cobb (Arianna), Xavier DeWitt, and Mina Casteñeda-DeWitt also held a special place in his heart, and he was proud to welcome his great-great-grandchildren, Abigail Rizo, Amir Cobb, and Anaïs Cobb into the family. He also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, friends, and very special friend, Margaret Hall.

Floyd dedicated his life to supporting his family and owned multiple businesses. He was the first black business owner in San Angelo to open a dance club for Black residents. His wisdom and guidance will be profoundly missed by all who had the privilege to know him.

The family will receive friends for visitation from 5:00 P.M. – 7:00 P.M., Friday, April 18, 2025, at Harper Funeral Home. A memorial service in honor of Floyd will be held on Saturday, April 19, 2025, at St. Paul Baptist Church. The burial will follow at Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens. All are invited to attend and share in remembering the remarkable life he lived.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Wesley Trinity United Methodist Church DAILY BREAD LUNCH PROGRAM, 301 West 18th St., San Angelo, TX, reflecting Floyd's commitment to helping others.

He will forever be remembered and loved by all whose lives he touched.

Rest in peace, dear Floyd/Dad/PaPa. Your spirit will live on in the hearts of your family.
