Gerald Wayne Coleman

On August 20, 2017, the Lord called Gerald Wayne Coleman home. This beloved husband, son, father, grandfather and friend will be missed by countless family and friends, but we rejoice in his healing and his place in the Lord’s presence. Born in San Angelo, Texas on April 3, 1952. Gerald’s parents, Larry and Joyce Barnes loved him and guided him through life. He would eventually graduate from Central High School in San Angelo in 1970, the same year he married fellow San Angelo native Paulette Box. They would have two children, Shane and Todd. Gerald spent his life working with computers, the last 15 years being employed by the Information Services Department of Abilene Christian University. When he wasn’t working he enjoyed repairing and putting cars together, fishing, camping and playing the guitar. All this was put on the backburner when grandkids started arriving. They quickly stole his heart and became the love of his life. Any event they were involved in demanded Poppy’s full attention and attendance. Gerald had surrendered to Christ early in life but only later did the relationship grow and blossom. He and Paulette had been a member of First Baptist Church of Buffalo Gap for some time when he began to grow dramatically in his spiritual life. When Rev. Chuck Gilliland was called to be the pastor of the church and he and Gerald developed a strong relationship, eventually going on a mission trip to Zambia together. The trip affected Gerald greatly, to the point that he would become a deacon at the church and member of the Praise Team. He developed a deep passion for people to know Jesus Christ in a personal and passionate relationship. Awaiting him in heaven is his son Shane, grandparents Robert and Teeny Morrison and grandparents Lawrence and Florence Barnes, brother David Barens and in-laws Frank and Nina Box and RJ Coleman. Gerald’s Legacy and memory are carried on by his wife Paulette Coleman of San Angelo, his son Todd and wife Trixy Coleman of San Angelo; grandkids Ashtyn Gillie of Austin, Justin Coleman of Abilene, Devon Franks of Denton, Drew Barber of Bakersfield, California, Devo Coleman of San Angelo and Arysta Coleman of San Angelo. His parents Larry and Joyce Barnes of San Angelo and brothers Gary Coleman and Steven Barnes, both of San Angelo carry on his legacy as well. A countless host of extended family and friends treasure their memories of Gerald. There will be a visitation Tuesday, August 22, 2017 from 6-8 PM at Harper’s Funeral Home. A celebration of his life will be held on Wednesday, August 23, 2017 at 11:30 AM at Glenn Meadows Baptist Church, 6002 Knickerbocker, San Angelo, Texas. Rev. Chuck Gilliland will officiate and the Buffalo Gap Praise Team will sing.
