Hilaire Michelle “Mickie” Richey, 79, of San Angelo passed away on January 21, 2025. Mickie was born on December 26, 1945 to Dr. Louis and Bonita (Crossnay) Girard in Washington, DC. She was the oldest of six siblings. Her family moved to Oyster Bay, New York while her father was completing his residency in New York City at Saint Mary’s Hospital in the Eye & Ear Infirmary.
In 1953, he was called to Houston to form the Department of Ophthalmology at Baylor College of Medicine. While in Houston, Mickie attended Holy Rosary Church School then on to St. Anne’s Catholic School. She graduated with honors from Marian Catholic High School. While attending there, she was crowned the Harvest Highlights Queen and was a member of the cheerleading squad. After high school, she enrolled at the University of Texas in Austin. She pledged membership with the Tri-Delta Sorority and earned the title of “Best Honorary Pledge”. She also continued to cheer with the junior varsity team.
She went with her father on a trip to Argentina, and while he was lecturing, she attended one of the Davis Cup Tennis Matches and met Cliff Richey. After dating for a short time, they were married in August of 1967. She moved from Houston to San Angelo where they started their lives together. Cliff still continued to travel with the Davis Cup and Mickie was happy to travel along with him.
Cliff and Mickie had three children, Hilaire, Amy Catherine, and Sarah. She was a very proud mother of exceptionally gifted and talented girls. She attended all the dance recitals and academic programs that she could. Even when she was busy with her girls, she still participated in church activities such as the Sacred Heart Choir, Parish Council and the Church Liturgy Committee. She was also a member of the Symphony Chorus, the Chamber Singers at Angelo State University, and did performances in the Nutcracker. Mickie also loved to garden in her spare time.
Mickie was an active participant in all church activities until her health started to decline with Alzheimer’s and she decided that she needed to spend time with her daughters. She lived her last years with Amy, who cared for her and was able to hold her hand as she took her last breath.
Mickie is preceded in death by her parents, one brother, Sandy Girard, and daughter, Hilaire Kallendorf. She is survived by two daughters, Amy Richey and Sarah Johnson; three grandchildren, Trevor Kallendorf, Barrett Kallendorf, and Oliver Johnson; five siblings, Susie Girard Thackston, Christina Girard, Lee Girard, Gabrielle Girard, and Louis Girard; numerous nieces, nephews, great- nieces, and great nephews.
