Jeanette "Jet" Mcgarvey

March 3, 1946 — December 29, 2020

Jeanette “Jet” McGarvey went to be with the Lord on December 29, 2020. She was born March 3, 1946, in Ballinger, Texas, to Robert F. and Mabel McMillan McGarvey. She is survived by her daughter, Desiré McGarvey of San Antonio, as well as beloved family on both the McMillan and McGarvey sides, and many friends that became family. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Robert B. McGarvey. Born and raised in Ballinger, Jet graduated from Ballinger High School in 1964. Jet lived most of her life in San Angelo, relocating to Knickerbocker, Texas, after retiring, and then eventually returning to San Angelo. She spent most of her career with GTE (Verizon), from which she retired after many years of service and making many wonderful and beloved friends along the way. Jet was also a devoted mom, and she was always present and involved in whatever activities Desiré pursued. This meant over the years Jet was a gymnastics mom, dance mom who even did mother/daughter classes with Desiré for a few years, basketball mom and coach, cheerleading mom, volleyball mom, choir mom, Girl Scout mom, longtime softball mom and coach and concession stand manager, FFA mom and goat raiser, and eventually proud Aggie mom, ASU Ram mom, MSU Denver Roadrunner mom, and finally proud Air Force mom. She was also a member of the women’s barbershop singing organization Sweet Adelines for many years, and she was an avid Bunco player, playing with several area groups in recent years. And Jet loved country and western dancing, a love she happily passed on to Desiré. Above all, Jet was a loved mom, daughter, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend who will be missed by many. A private graveside service will be held at Evergreen Cemetery in Ballinger on Saturday, January 2, 2021, at 10:00 AM. Arrangements are through Harper Funeral Home in San Angelo. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that a donation be made to the Fisher House Foundation, which Jet appreciated for aiding Desiré during her transition out of the Air Force, the Wounded Warrior Project, or another favorite charity, in memory of Jet.
