Jim Grissen, 70, born September 4, 1946, in San Angelo, Texas, passed away peacefully in his home June 19, 2017. He is survived by his wife of 25 years Deborah Brown Grissen, his son Justin Grissen and wife Amy of Dallas, granddaughters Ruthie and Greer Grissen, Deborah's children Angie West of Chicago and Andrew West of Austin, Deborah's mother Mrs. Nancy Evans Brown, in-laws Mr. and Mrs. John Randolph Winston III of Lufkin, Mr. and Mrs. Marshall Evans Brown of San Angelo, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his mother Mrs. Tomasine Armstrong and his father Mr. James Grissen. An Eagle Scout and a varsity football player at San Angelo Central High School, Mr. Grissen graduated in 1964 and proceeded to play football on scholarship at Southern Methodist University. He went on to graduate from Texas Tech University in 1968. He was the recipient of numerous prestigious awards during his forty-year tenure as an agent for New York Life. Having a true passion and love for the game of golf, Mr. Grissen’s decades-long relationship with San Angelo Country Club was a cornerstone in his life. Lovingly nicknamed his “country home” by the friends he adored, SACC was a place where he served on the Board of Directors, as Tournament Chairman, won the Men’s Club Championship in 1983, and finished infinite rounds in the role of friend, husband, father, brother, and sportsman. To know Mr. Grissen was to know his generous spirit, his faith, his wit, his devotion to family, beloved pets, and his lifelong commitment to the greatest friends anyone could hope for in life. He was a loyal member of the First United Methodist Church. A celebration of life will be held at San Angelo Country Club this Friday, June 23rd, at 7pm. Casual attire.
