Jodie E. Wanoreck

Jodie Edwald Wanoreck, 83 of San Angelo went on to the big fishing hole in the sky on May 27, 2017. Jodie was born June 23, 1933 to Alma Spieker Wanoreck and John Wanoreck. He grew up in the Arden Community with his parents and sister Jewel Wanoreck Vick, working for ranchers. The family lived a couple of years in San Angelo with Jodie attending San Angelo Central High School. He quit school, going out on his own to do ranch work in Irion Co. Later he went off to the oil fields as a rig hand. He was then drafted into the Army towards the close of the Korean conflict. After serving his time, he returned home to the oil fields and to marry his sweetheart Jonann Parks in Mertzon, TX in 1956. They moved to San Antonio during 1957 and then returned to San Angelo in 1958 and owned a service station, Phillips 66, with his brother-in-law as partners. From 1970-1980 he owned a BBQ business, Jodie’s BBQ along side his mother Alma and he is still known for his smoked ham and turkeys. He was best known as the “meat master.” After he sold the BBQ business to retire to work on his family ranch until his passing. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and baseball, especially the Texas Rangers. Jodie watched and coached his kids while they played many sports. The highlight of this time was when his son’s team won the state championship. Jodie loved to fish even in his later life he would go as much as possible with the help of his special friend Vernon Sartain. Jodie always had a story to share with everyone he met. He is survived by his wife Jonann of 60 years and dog Buddy, son Calvin Wanoreck, daughter Susan Fisher and husband Montie Fisher, four grandsons Dylan Wanoreck, Clayton Fisher, and his wife Katie Fisher, Ethan Wanoreck, and Chance Fisher; special nephew Mickey Vick and wife Sharon Vick and special niece Judy Cmerck and husband Darrell Cmerck and special great nieces, nephews and cousins. He is preceded in death by his parents, sister and brother-in-law Jewel and Wayne Vick, son Tim and grandson Cody Wanoreck. A special thank you to Dr. Anderton and nurse Penny and special friends and family and the sweet young ladies who cared for him and helped get him home. I pray that I may live to fish until my dying day. And when it comes to my last cast, I then most humbly pray when in the Lord’s great landing net and peacefully asleep, that in His mercy I be judged “Big enough to keep”. Open visitation will be held all day at Harper Funeral Home, Monday May 29, 2017 with family present from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. Graveside service will be held at Mertzon Cemetery, Tuesday May 30, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. with Dr. Tommy King officiating.
