John Douglas Callahan

John Douglas Callahan, 78, San Angelo, Texas, went to be with his Lord on 3 May 2020 after a long struggle with health, surrounded by his wife and daughters. Born 15 September 1941 in Pawtucket, Rhode Island. Parents: John W. Callahan and Alice A. Tondreau. John attended Saint Edward’s School in Pawtucket, Rhode Island. He graduated from Wayland Baptist University with a Bachelor of Science in Occupational Education. John married the love his life, Karin Klug on 1 August 1963, in Bitburg, Germany while serving in the United States Air Force. Chief Master Sergeant (USAF, Ret) John Callahan, “The Chief,” served his country honorably for 30 years. A highly decorated Airman, his tours included Vietnam, and Europe during the Cold War. John was a natural marksman and a skilled angler. He had a passion for technology, photography, and traveling. His mentorship, canny sense of humor, and leadership leave indelible marks on those who shared in his journey. John is survived by: Spouse: Karin Callahan; Children: Jacqueline (David) Kerry, Angie (Phil) Lowden; Grandchildren: Marcus (Bonnie) Kerry, Mathew (Kate) Kerry, Maria Kerry, Emily (Robert) Delk, and Kelsey Lowden; Great Grandchildren: Addison and Emmerson Kerry, Olivia Delk, and Luke Kerry; Siblings: Mary Callahan-Medeiros, Alan Callahan, Carolyn (Anton) Schlereth, Ralph Callahan, Joanie Greenberg, and Debbie Callahan; Preceded in death by his parents, John W. Callahan and Alice A. Tondreau. A Mass service is scheduled for 10 AM on 7 May 2020 at Sacred Heart Cathedral, 20 East Beauregard Ave, San Angelo Texas. Consistent with the actions taken by many churches, congregations, and places of worship across the state, employees, volunteers, and attendees MUST wear cloth face coverings (over the nose and mouth). When seating please skip a row, members in the same family may sit together, and then every separate family should sit 6 feet apart. Interment to take place at Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery in Dallas, TX. Due to Corona Virus the date is TBA.
