Minister John E. Nelson, 76, of San Angelo went to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday, January 10, 2016 in San Angelo. The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM, Wednesday, January 20, 2016 at Harper Funeral Home. The Funeral Service will be 1:00 P.M., Thursday, January 21, 2016 at New Birth Full Gospel Assembly with Pastor Leo McCarty officiating. John was born May 9, 1939 in San Angelo, Texas to Alvin Bland and Johnie Mae Nelson. His early education began at Hammond and Blackshear Schools in San Angelo. John served his country honorably in The United States Army. He started working for the City of San Francisco and after several years began working for the State of California, from which he retired. John met and married the love of his life, Pauline Buckner and they shared 40 beautiful years together. His life came full circle when he became an ordained minister, for he truly loved God. John was preceded in death by his father and mother and his brother Carl Nelson. His memory is cherished by his wife, Pauline, his sons, Eric Jason Nelson, of Daly City, CA, A. Delvon Nelson (Nicole), of San Francisco, CA, and Chester Buckner, of Newark N.J. His daughter, Valerie Louise Buckner, of Greenville, MS; Two Grandchildren, Lucas Nelson and Delvon Buckner; his Sisters, Evelyn Drones, of San Angelo, Joann Martin (Louis) of San Angelo, Alvetta Demry, of Las Vegas, NV, Patsy Brown (Trevor), of Houston, and Lynell Ellison (Lynell), of Dallas; Three Sisters-in-law, Dorothy Winters(Charles) of Greenville, MS, Mary Louise Bell, of Greenville, MS, and Barbara Jean Wright, of Arlington, TX. John also leaves to cherish his memory numerous nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, cousins and many friends.
