Loyce Kelso

June 29, 1933 — April 20, 2025

Loyce Kelso, 91, of San Angelo, Texas went to be with the Lord on Easter Sunday, April 20, 2025, in San Angelo. Loyce was born June 29, 1933, in Morrillton, Arkansas to Dempsey Cleo and Georgia Louise Tackett Renfroe. She grew up in Arkansas and graduated from Edcouch-Elsa High School. After high school, she went to work for the phone company as a telephone operator. Loyce met and later married the love of her life, John William Kelso I. She went to work as a secretary at an airplane plant, which she left in order to become a loving homemaker and took delight in raising her child and taking care of her home. One of her greatest accomplishments was raising funds for the Ronald McDonald Foundation for helping fight diseases in children, especially after the cancer diagnosis Johnny received. Loyce also loved to do needlepoint. After her husband retired from the military, she and John would travel all over tracing their genealogy. Loyce’s best attribute was her caring nature and the ability to make everyone feel accepted and loved, especially her daughter-in-law, who she considered her daughter from the moment she met her and her new grandsons.

Loyce was preceded in death by her parents, her husband John William Kelso I, her son, John William Kelso II, and her twin sister, Joyce Giese. She is survived by her daughter, Michele Kelso, of San Angelo; her grandchildren, René Kelso, of San Angelo, Senjen Browder (Lia), of West, TX and their children Maddy and Weston, and Clinton Browder (Kandice) and their children Grant, Addison, Leon, Cypher and Scarlett; her nieces, Terry L. Space (Bob), of Georgetown, TX; Jan Droemer (Everett), of Giddings, TX; her nephew, Todd Giese (Kathy), of Round Rock, TX; and numerous other nieces and nephews, other family members and close friends.

A celebration of life will be held at 10:00 A.M., on Saturday, May 3, 2025, at Harper Funeral Home with Matthew Minton officiating. Honorary pallbearers will be René Kelso, Senjen Browder, and Clinton Browder.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to the nurses and staff of Hospice of San Angelo for their special care of Loyce.
