A visitation will be held Tuesday, November 1 at Harper Funeral Home from 5:30 – 7:30 PM. A graveside service for Margaret June Goodman Alvey will be held at 2:00 PM Wednesday, November 2 at Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens. Margaret was born June 6, 1932 in Upham, North Dakota to Alexander and Lara Goodman. She was the youngest of four children. Margaret graduated from Upham High School in 1950. She then went on to graduate from Trinity Hospital School of Nursing in 1953 with her R.N. license. She worked as a surgical nurse at Trinity Hospital in Minot, North Dakota as well as the VA Hospital in Portland, Oregon. She joined the United States Airforce as a nurse in Neurosurgery and the Maternal Wards in 1957. She was Honorably Discharged from the Airforce in 1961. She then began her career in Geriatric Nursing. She was Director of Nurses at Park Plaza Nursing Center and Meadow Creek Nursing Center from 1975 to 2004. In 2007, she became the Assistant Director of Nursing at Park Plaza Nursing Center and was still working two days a week. Margaret was an avid and accomplished bowler. She met many wonderful friends at the “lanes”. When she could no longer bowl, she immersed herself in her work and her patients. Ms. Alvey loved her patients, nurses, aids and they were her family. Her life changed forever with the birth of her granddaughter, Katelyn, in 1992. Katelyn was her pride and joy. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, and her two sisters. Ms. Alvey is survived by her daughter, Laura Griggs and husband Bert, granddaughter Katelyn Spraggins, her four best friends, Dorothy Rabb, Blossom Muncey, Mary Eakman, and Dora Robinson, many nieces, nephews, and cousins. We would like the thank Dr. Chris Barnett, Dr. Folano, Dr. Owens, and Dr. Hinshaw for their care and support of Ms. Alvey and to the nursing staff of Park Plaza Nursing Center for their devotion to Ms. Alvey love they gave her at all times, and to the wonderful folks at Kindred Hospice for their help and care during this difficult time. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Kindred Hospice of San Angelo, The ASPCA, or the Wounded Worriers Project.
