Misspelled texts, bizarre clothing choices, and a fierce impulse to hunt arrowheads are just some of the memorable trademarks, along with an infinite amount of special moments, are all now locked into the minds of those who were fortunate enough to know Marty Paul Cormier. A child at heart, his heart stopped beating on the evening of Monday, September 23. Although the sudden halt of his life came as a suprise, those who he is survived by will forever carry the lasting effects of his greatly cultivated sense of humor and distinguished personality. The impact he left on those in his corner of the world is everlasting.
Marty was born on June 1, 1977 to Paul and Beverly Albro Cormier. He spent his childhood living out boyish adventures that would later become signature stories sparking hysterical laughter and fearful shock. Before graduating Central High School in 1995, he participated in football and showed great promise in baseball. However, it was during his time at Western Texas College in Snyder, Texas when he discovered the sport that would go on to define his life: rodeo. He began as a bullrider after an adrenaline-filled bout with his first ever bull at the Rocking P practice pen. Later on, he transitioned to bullfighting when he started prioritizing the desire to be a protector for his friends who were riding. As his endeavors with rodeo progressed, he also mentored numerous young riders and fighters who were looking to get their foot in the door. He was known as the guy who would either get people behind the chutes or put them on their first bull. His contributions to the rodeo industry spanned far lengths, reaching out and impacting the lives of numerous rodeoers.
His passion for rodeo was only seconded by a passion for his family. He proved such when he chose to slow down the pace of his career and dedicate his effort towards his children. No greater fortune could’ve been given to Presli and Tayte, who experienced his relentless energy and determination to make anything fun. There will never be any fishing trip, pillow fort, or summer afternoon jumping on the trampoline with the sprinkler that will ever match those of which Marty was involved with. His fatherhood highlights are remarkable, and it’s because of his undying passion for his children that his impact on them will be immortalized.
He chose to designate his occupation as a welder, with the marks of his trade being left all over numerous pipelines, structures, and fabrications across West Texas, and even Colorado.
In life, Marty cherished God, his family, and his friends. He was a cowboy at heart. He believed a handshake was a binding contract, and that the associated task would be carried out with love and dedication. He would do anything to help someone, and had a sense of humor that rivaled none.
Marty is preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Howard “Popo” and Pauline Williams Cormier; maternal grandparents, Ames and Delma Alexander Albro; and his three dogs, Boudreaux, Runt, and Gus. His legacy is carried on by his children, Tayte and Presli Cormier, whom he brought into this world with the love of his life Jaime Miller Cormier. He is survived by his parents, Paul and Beverly; his sister and her husband, Mindy and Joey Davis; their children, Everett, Lyla and Conor. He is also survived by numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins on both the Cormier and Miller sides; along with countless friends and travel-buddies who accompanied him throughout various segments of his life’s journey. Not to be forgotten are the many young welders, bullfighters, and bull riders whom he mentored.
