Maxine Page

Wanda Maxine Wilton Page died peacefully on June 3, 2016, at 96 years of age. A memorial service will be held at 11 o’clock on June 13, 2016 at First Presbyterian Church in Eldorado, Texas with Rev Joe McGee presiding. Arrangements are being made through Harper Funeral Home of San Angelo. Maxine was born on January 11, 1920 in Richland Springs, Texas, to Tom and Jeannette Wilton. At a young age, her family moved to Eldorado and settled on a ranch north of town. She attended school in Eldorado, graduating in 1937 and then attending Texas Christian University for two years before transferring to North Texas State Teacher’s College to complete a degree in Music Education in 1941. Maxine married Lieutenant James Albert Page of Eldorado on August 2, 1942 while James was stationed in Brownwood, Texas. When he was overseas, Maxine taught music in the public schools in Ballinger and then Eldorado. Maxine and James began ranching at the close of the war, and were blessed with the births of daughters Mary Ann and Martha Sue. Maxine’s teaching career ended at that time, but she continued to volunteer as an organist and choir director of the First Presbyterian Church for many years and also played at countless community weddings and funerals. Following James’ death in 1990, Maxine moved to San Angelo to live at Rio Concho West. She made friends easily and enjoyed many activities, including playing piano in the Junk Yard Band. Maxine continued her lifelong friendships in Eldorado and enjoyed her church and bridge group there as long as possible. In her later years she served as a pianist for the church service at Royal Estates and enjoyed many old and new friendships. Maxine was preceded in death by her parents, husband James and brother Billy Wilton of Fort Summer, New Mexico. Maxine, or Max, as she was affectionately called is survived by her daughters, Mary Ann and husband Steve Blaylock of Midland and Martha Sue and husband Richey Oliver of San Angelo and grandchildren Jay (Phebe), Jeff (Tisha) and Betsy Blaylock, Greg (Brett) and Mark (Casey) Oliver and Lucy (Zach) Taylor. She is also survived by her sister-in-law Betty Wilton, 10 nieces and nephews and 10 great-grandchildren. Maxine’s family wishes to offer heartfelt thanks to caregivers Hope Guzman and Rachel Chabarria, Pamela Murphy of Hospice of San Angelo and the staff at Royal Estates. Your care, kindness and love for Max will not be forgotten. In lieu of flowers the family requests any memorials be sent to First Presbyterian Church of Eldorado, Hospice of San Angelo or a favorite charity.
