Patricia Ann Avirett Newman (Maier); a lover of life, laughter, adventure, and song, but mostly family, passed away in February of 2025.
Patricia was born in October of 1936 to Joseph Maier and Hallis Oates in San Angelo, TX. One of eight siblings, she resided in San Angelo until she married Emory Avirett. They moved around Texas until finding Comfort and called it home. There she raised her three children, Hallis, Kerry and Diana. Her next life adventure was to Anchorage, AK and while there fell in love with Donald Newman and married. After retirement she returned to San Angelo where she lived for the remainder of her life.
Her tenacity and belief in constantly learning allowed her to accomplish many things in her life. She accomplished raising a family, learned to farm, ran her own restaurant, learned the oil business and worked for the city of Anchorage. In addition, she was an avid reader and writer. Good quotes and bible verses were kept near and read often. In her younger years she played basketball and loved watching the sport later in life. Learning about her ancestry was a passion of hers. She enjoyed documenting family history as well as planning family gatherings and reunions. Patricia enjoyed creating through crafts like macrame, cross stitching, making baby blankets, canning and gardening.
Patricia was an honest, loving soul affectionately known as “Prissy” or “Memaw” by family. She was preceded in death by: parents Joseph and Hallis Maier; siblings Frank Maier, Glen Maier, and Sarah Schmidt; spouse Donald Newman. Patricia is survived by: siblings Zada Morrill, Jerry Maier, Kenneth Maier and Charles Maier; children Kerry and Patsy Avirett, Diana Preble, and Hallis Epley; grandchildren Grant and Kaili Avirett, Chad Avirett, Kayla and Joel Zachry, Alesha Cribb, Charlotte and Joe Marion, great grandchildren; Briar, Kayson, Tegan, Rylee, Leighton, Luke, Emmi, Merek; and many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
A memorial service for Patricia will be held on a later date to be determined.
