Phillip Mark Cockerell

June 10, 1956 — August 8, 2024

Phillip Mark Cockerell came into this world on June 10, 1956, the son of Lee Roy and Myrtle Lois Cockerell. He departed from us on August 8, 2024, at the age of 68.


Phillip attended Paint Creek Schools where he graduated from in 1976. He married Floradean Hawkins on June 10, 1978. He worked in various occupations including farm hand, grocery store, parts store, mechanic for Medford-Buick before beginning a career with then Lone Star Gas Co. in 1985. That spanned a 35 year career with him retiring from Atmos Energy in October 2020. He was a volunteer fireman for many years serving in several different towns.


Phillip loved all things outdoors. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping with his family. He enjoyed sports of all kinds, but he was especially an avid golfer later in life.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Lee Roy Jr.


Phillip left behind his wife of 46 years, his beloved sons, Steven and wife Miranda of Early, Jimmy and wife Meghan of San Angelo, two precious grandsons whom he loved dearly, Noah Kyle of Early and Phillip Ross of San Angelo, brother Larry of Abilene, sister Luann of Abilene, numerous extended families and a host of friends and fellow workers.


A come and go visitation celebrating his life will be held on Sunday, August 11, 2024, from 2:00-4:00pm at Harper Funeral Home in San Angelo.
