Raymond P. Dehnel

August 12, 1916 — June 27, 2017

Raymond Paul (R.P.) Dehnel, 100, of San Angelo, Texas, went to be with his Lord Jesus on Tuesday, June 27, 2017. Visitation will be Friday, June 30, 2017, from 6:00-8:00 PM, at Harper Funeral Home. The funeral will be Saturday, July 1, 2017, 9:00 AM, Belmore Baptist Church in San Angelo with burial to follow at Belvedere Memorial Park Cemetery. Raymond was born August 12, 1916, in San Angelo, where he grew up and worked at his family's grocery store. He attended San Angelo College and Texas Tech University. The start of World War II interrupted his education. Raymond served in the Army being stationed in Hawaii during the war. Following his discharge, he completed his degree at Hardin Simmons University. He accepted a position with Shell Pipe Line Company that would move him and his family to Colorado City, Midland, and McCamey. He, also, had a private tax accounting service for many years. After his retirement from Shell Pipe Line, he and his wife, Novella, moved back to San Angelo. Raymond's faith was in the Lord Jesus as his Savior. His walk with Jesus Christ was evidenced by his witnessing, his Bible reading, and his humming hymns as he went along. Throughout his life, he faithfully attended and served in churches: Austin Street Baptist Church, Colorado City; Glenmore Baptist Church, Midland; East Side Baptist Church, McCamey where he served as a deacon and sometimes led the music; and Belmore Baptist Church, San Angelo where he served as a deacon for many years. Raymond was preceded in death by: his parents, Paul Emanuel and Ava Lee; his wife, of 72 years, Novella; his siblings, John, Jack, Bill, Martin, and Helen; daughter Ava and husband Arnold; and his son Douglas and wife Sharon. Raymond is survived by his siblings: Elizabeth "Diz" McKinney of Sachse, Paul Dehnel of Lakeway, Robert Dehnel of San Angelo, Curtis Dehnel of Lampasas, and Margarete Crook of Jupiter, FL. He is survived by his children: Frances (Ken) Buchanan of San Angelo, Martha (Ken) Joyce of San Marcos, Paula (Doug) Holder of Kermit, Richard (Alice) Dehnel of Sundown, Wanda (Russell) May of Hamlin, and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. The family would like to thank Dr. Chitwood for her outstanding care; Neil Conner from Belmore Baptist for his faithful Monday visits for many years; the Kindred Hospice team: Tina, Rae, Peggy, Dale, Steve, and Sherry; and his faithful caregivers: Beverly, Tina, Susan, Angelica, and Erik. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Raymond and Novella Dehnel Endowed Scholarship at Hardin Simmons University, Box 16100, Abilene, TX 79698.
