Rebecca Ruth "Becky" Smith

Rebecca Ruth “Becky” Smith, 69, of San Angelo, formerly of Uvalde, died after a three-month battle with cancer on Feb. 26, 2024, with family members by her side, at the Park Plaza Nursing Home in San Angelo.


A celebration of her life will be held on Wednesday March 20, at 10:30 a.m. at Harper’s Funeral Home in San Angelo. The Reverend Jay Clatworthy of Providence Baptist Church and the Reverend Bill Wright of Emmanuel Episcopal Church, each of San Angelo, will officiate. A graveside service will be held on Thursday March 21, at 10:30 a.m. at the Hillcrest Cemetery in Uvalde. Reverend Jay Clatworthy will officiate.


Becky was born on April 11, 1954, in Uvalde, Texas. She was a 1972 graduate of Uvalde High School, after which she attended Power’s Modeling School in Fort Worth.

She pursued modeling but a long career with Bell Telephone - AT&T provided her means to retire, after which she moved back to Uvalde to be near her parents. After her daddy died, she and her mother moved to San Angelo to be near her brother. She was a member of Providence Baptist Church and was known at Emmanuel Episcopal Church where her mother attended.


She is survived by brother, Russell Smith and wife Linda, of San Angelo; nephew John Ryan Smith and wife Maritza, of San Angelo; niece Shannon Lee Smith Denson and husband, Isaac, of Whitewright; great nephews, Caleb Denson of Odessa, Joshua Denson of Seagoville, and Matthew Smith of San Angelo; and great niece, Madison Smith, of San Angelo; uncle, Elton Fewell and wife Daisy, of Austin; cousins Nancy Michael and companion, Julie Hendrickson, of Bemidji, Minnesota; Jill Ann Daggs and husband, Joe, of Natalia, and Jim Ray Smith and wife, Debbie, of Lytle.


Becky made a multitude of friends in her life but considered some as family; Mikki Detten of Tyler, a friend and “sister” for 56 years, and, Bonnie Kirby (husband Adrian), best friend for 46 years, and namesake Rebecca Kirby West (husband Michael and daughter Bella.)


She was preceded in death by her parents, and by her puppy named Riley who walked the block with her for many years.
