Robert E. Lasswell

December 10, 1933 — March 6, 2018

Robert Eugene (Bob) Lasswell was born in Sonora, Texas on December 10, 1933 to Robert Columbus (Lum) and Mildred Hayley Lasswell. After a long and courageous battle with Alzheimer’s, he died peacefully at home surrounded by family on March 6, 2018. As a baby, Bob moved with his parents to Coke County. There he grew up learning to work and love the land of his grandparents, both at Ft. Chadbourne and Hayrick. He graduated from Bronte High School and soon joined the army. He had many happy memories of the time he spent in Germany and was proud to have served his country. Upon return home, Bob graduated from Texas Tech University. He went to work for Ethicon and retired as Needle Manufacturing Superintendent after 28 years with the company. At the company, Bob became a legend due to his work ethic and was well respected as a leader, taskmaster and mentor. Upon retirement, Bob moved to the home place at Ft. Chadbourne where he loved ranching and tending to his land both there and at Hayrick. Robert Eugene Lasswell is survived by his wife, Stella; his children Bryan Lasswell (M’Linda), Sharla Fitzgerald (Reid) and step-daughter Lisa Estrada; his grandchildren Robert, Patrick, and Ethan Fitzgerald, Reece and Reagan Lasswell, step-grandchildren Marcus Estrada (Eileen) and Michael Sevier ; sister Linda Simpson(Robert); Nieces Lita Bradley (Paul) and Stacy Simpson; step-nephew Bobby Simpson; great- niece Jennifer Davis, great-nephew Brandon Davis; brothers-in-law Tom Soto (Veronica), Gene Soto (Victoria), Roberto Soto (Virginia San Miguel) Sister-in-law Sylvia Soto (Joe Hernandez). Graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 10 at the beautiful Hayrick Cemetery which overlooks the land where his mother grew up and where he spent many happy hours. The family extends their thanks and gratitude to Bob’s caregivers: Hilda Ruiz, Celia Colmenero, Liberto Perez, Hospice of San Angelo, Chaplain Mike Andress, Laura Charlton, and Karen Schmeltekopf. Also, appreciation to retired pastor, Nathaniel Hankins, who will officiate at the gravesite service. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to your favorite charity. “Those who wait on the Lord will find new strength. They will fly high on wings like eagles. They will run and not grow weary. They will walk and not faint.” Isaiah 41:31
