Robert Lewis Johnston

November 23, 1939 — June 30, 2017

Robert “Bob” Lewis Johnston was born to Hyman Johnston and Mary Lewis on November 23, 1939, in London, Ontario, Canada. He was the youngest of their five children. Bob was a graduate of high school and trade school in Ontario. He went on to work for a major telecommunications company which, after living in several interesting places, landed him in California. An unexpected date to a Judd’s concert was the beginning of a new adventure and the journey of a lifetime. On October 28, 1989, he married the love of his life and best friend, Diana Stone in Bakersfield, California. Brought to the marriage were Bob’s three and Diana’s two beautiful daughters. Shortly after their marriage, his job took their family to Texas. Bob loved a lot of people. But nothing surpassed his love for his family. Bob loved to play tennis, wear plaid shirts, and buy white tennis shoes. He remembered the lyrics to any song he ever heard, he loved to play games with his family, eat ice cream, and tinker with gadgets. He had an infectious smile and a huge heart. Bob left this earth to be with his Father in Heaven on Friday, June 30, 2017. Bob was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Frank Johnston and wife Clara; sister-in-law Ursula Johnston; brothers-in-law Ernie Young and Alec Rosborough. He is survived by his loving family, wife Diana Johnston of San Angelo; daughters Elizabeth Thomason and her husband John of Vero Beach, Florida; Lesleigh Johnston and her partner Carolyn Agerton of Bakersfield, California; Lyndley Warren and her husband Todd of Bakersfield, California; Renee Robbins and husband Clif of San Angelo, Texas; and Vanessa McCarley and husband Nathan of Lakeland, Florida. Also surviving are his grandchildren Jane, Brett and Blake; Tracey and his wife Monica, Jessey, Brynna, and Emma; Drew, Delaney, and Stone; Taylor, Judah, and Lennon. Also surviving are his siblings, Ron Johnston, Pat Young, and Betty Rosborough all of London, Ontario, Canada, numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. A private memorial service will be held Saturday, June 8, 2017. The family would like to thank Dr. Robert Prieto and his incredible staff for the love and care over the past three years, Kindred Hospice and the number of people who have provided support in the form of phone calls, food and personal visits. In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that donations be made in Bob's memory to Kindred Hospice or the charity of your choice. Arrangements are by Harper Funeral Home. Family and friends may sign an online registry book at http://www.harper-funeralhome.com
