Stewart Deen Dickson, Sr.

Stewart (Puddin) Dickson 76, passed away to be with our heavenly father on Tuesday, January 30, 2018. Stewart was born in Corsicana, Texas on September 15, 1941 to Selma Q. and Jimmie Lou Dickson. Stewart was the only child and was raised on the farm until the family decided to come to West Texas and farm in Rotan. Because of the drought, the family sold the farm and moved to Colorado City, Texas. Stewart was a graduate of Colorado City High School. He then met the love of his life Faye Ellen (Conaway) and they married on May 18, 1963. They spent 54 years of a wonderful journey in life. They had two children Deen and Sarah which he loved dearly. Stewart started his career as a dispatcher with the City of Colorado City Police Department. He then was hired on with the Big Spring Police Department as a traffic officer. There he was recognized for numerous awards and the one he was most proud of was being chosen as Officer of the Year for initiating the child safety program for the Big Spring ISD. In 1970, the family moved to Abilene where he went to work for the Taylor County Sheriffs Office and went to school at Hardin Simmons where he obtained his Bachelor of Science Degree in Criminal Justice. While at Taylor County, he was appointed Chief Jailer followed by the appointment of Chief Deputy by then Sheriff, Jack Landrum. Stewart was then approached to become a law enforcement instructor for Texas A&M University. He began teaching to thousands of law enforcement students throughout the state. In 1978, he accepted a position as Concho Valley Council of Governments Regional Law Enforcement Coordinator and the family moved to San Angelo, Texas. Stewart loved being able to teach students and he loved being a part of the San Angelo Police Department and Tom Green County Sheriffs Office. After following his retirement with the Concho Valley Council of Governments in October 1996, he went to work with the Tom Green County Sheriffs Office as Chief Deputy to Sheriff Dan Gray. He was then appointed as Lieutenant/Public Information Officer under Sheriff Joe Hunt until Stewart retired in March 2006. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, wood working, Genealogy, rebuilding and collecting old tractors, reading, and most dearly being with his family. Stewart leaves his wife of 54 years, Faye (Conaway) Dickson, one son, Stewart Deen Dickson, Jr. and wife Denice of San Angelo, Texas, one daughter, Sarah Louise Drennan and husband Billy Royce (Shorty) Drennan of Sudan, Texas six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 PM Friday, February 2, 2018, at Lawnhaven Memorial Cemetery, with the Rev. Russ Frasier officiating. Visitation will be at Harper Funeral Home on Thursday, February 1, 2108 from 6:00- 8:00 PM. Pallbearers will be Ashley Dickson, Chris Dickson, Jacob Drennan, Kendon Drennan, Michael Drennan (all grandchildren), J. P. McGuire, Mike Magee, and Craig Hopper. The family would like to thank the San Angelo Fire Department, the nursing staff at Angelo Community Hospital, and the hospital staff as St. Luke's Baptist Hospital in San Antonio.
