Thomas W. Smith

March 23, 1931 — December 7, 2020

Thomas W. Smith, born March 23rd, 1931 to Robert L. “Bob” Smith, II and Willie Mae Smith passed away on December 7th, 2020 in San Angelo, Texas. Originally from Slaton, Texas, Tom wore Slaton Tiger jersey #24 and enjoyed the aggressive acquisition of real-estate on the grid-iron at a time when real men wore leather helmets without face-masks, high-top leather cleats and marked their march to the goal-line with real pigskin. Tom graduated from Slaton High School in 1949 and worked for the Santa Fe Railroad until being drafted into the U.S. Army. While in the Army, as a member of 2d Armor Div. HOW (“Hell-On-Wheels”), 3d Medium Tank Battalion, C Co., Tom got a three-day pass, during which he managed to convince Eudene to marry him. After leaving Fort Hood and the Army behind, Tom and Eudene moved to San Angelo, where Tom worked for Electric Service Company in various capacities in the electric motor repair shop and the transformer shop. One year and one day after Tom started work at Electric Service Co., Robert “Mike” Smith arrived, five years later, J. T. Smith joined them. In 1992 Tom retired from SESCO as President and formed TWS Electric Service Co. Inc. He ran that company until 1999 when he retired to raise goats outside of Christoval and take an active role in the community. He was a leader in the Christoval Chamber of Commerce, an election judge, and an avid supporter of the Christoval Cougars where he loved watching his grandsons play football. Tom’s love for the Lord was evident in every area of his life. Tom and Eudene were always active church members wherever they lived. He was ordained as a deacon at Immanuel Baptist where he served as chairman and also oversaw the rebuilding of Immanuel after the fire. His love for the Lord impacted the family enormously and is evident in the lives of the generations that follow him. The Lord continues to bless his faithfulness and to use his sons, grandchildren and great grandchildren to further His kingdom. He was preceded in death by both his parents, and his brother, Robert “Bobby” L. Smith, III of Shallowater, Texas. Tom is survived by his son, J. T. Smith and wife, Chel, their children and grandchildren: Justin and wife, Chelsea and their children Danielle, Josalyn and Kerrigan; Cody; and Rhiannon and husband, Justin Kelso and their children Jadon, Mitzi and Auron. He is also survived by his eldest son, R. Mike Smith, wife Penny, their children and grandchildren: Mical and husband Josh Boness and their children, Jake and Tucker; and Peter Smith and wife, Torie and their children, Emmalyn and Hudson. A Funeral Service will be at 2 pm on Friday, December 11th at Immanuel Baptist Church on 14th and Oaks St.
