Vena Ellen Cunningham Benes

Our beloved Vena Ellen Cunningham Benes, 90 returned to her heavenly home on December 9, 2015. Vena was born August 23, 1925 in Miles, Texas to Dick and Bessie Cunningham. She attended Miles High School. Vena married James R. Benes, Sr. in Ballinger, TX on November 13, 1943. She was a homemaker and enjoyed cooking, sewing and taking care of her children and grandchildren. Vena was also a “Mother Hen” to all her nephew and nieces. She enjoyed attending all her children’s school functions, then her grandchildren’s school functions and their college functions. Vena was preceded in death by her Parents dick and Bessie Cunningham, her daughter, Janet Eudy and one sister, Caroline Jewell. She is survived by her husband of 72 years, James R. Benes, Sr., of San Angelo; her Son, James R. Benes, Jr., of Irving, TX; her Daughters, Joyce Hicks of Glen Burnie, MD, Judy Fowler and her husband Scotty, of San Angelo and Joan Watkins and Wayne Gilbert, of San Angelo; her Brother and Sister, Glen Cunningham and Jean Bolz, both of San Angelo; and her Grandchildren, Mary Mazetis and husband Chris, Alex Eudy, Andrew Fowler, Shawn Watkins, Adam Fowler and wife Mandy and Joshua Watkins; and Great Grandchildren, Hannah Hicks, D. J. Hicks, Emma Stull and Eddie and Simone Fowler. The visitation will be Sunday, December 13, 2015 from 5:00 P.M. – 7:00 P.M. at Harper Funeral Home, 2606 Southland Blvd. The Funeral Service will be 10:00 A.M., Monday, December 14, 2015 at Harper Funeral Home Chapel with Paul Shero officiating. The Burial will follow at Miles Cemetery. Pallbearers for the service will be Alex, Andrew, Shawn, Adam, Joshua and Steve Fowler. Donations may be made to Meals For The Elderly.
