She was raised by her mother and stepfather Wilbur C. Terry. In 1941 she married John Thomas Ross. They lived in Brownsville and had three daughters, Patricia Elaine, Leona Michele, and Ella Kathleen. Later, they moved to Austin where John was a building contractor and Virginia worked as accounts payable director of Tracor Inc., a high tech defense contractor. Virginia retired from Tracor after 25 years, the same year she received her bachelor of arts degree magna cum laude from St. Edward’s University. She had many friends far and wide, loved playing bridge and poker, playing the piano, fishing, and was a Girl Scout leader and camper extraordinaire. She especially loved visiting the Texas coast. John Ross died in 1995 after 54 years of marriage. Virginia then married high school friend James I. Hargis. They moved to San Angelo in 2008 to be near family and attend Holy Angels Catholic Church. Virgina was preceded in death by both her husbands, her daughter Ella Kathleen, her parents, her sister Hazel, a half-sister Billie, and a granddaughter, Cheryl Freeman. She is survived by her daughters Pat O’Brien and Miki Clemens and Miki’s husband Gus of San Angelo. She has four granddaughters, one grandson, seven great-grandsons, four great granddaughters, six great great grandsons and one great great granddaughter. She leaves behind many Clemens relatives who she dearly loved. The family would like to give special thanks to Janie Ybarra for all her loving care of our mother and to Hospice of San Angelo. A Funeral Mass will be at Holy Angels on Wednesday, October 25th at 10:00 AM. Burial will follow at Capital Memorial Gardens in Austin, where she will be laid to rest next to her first husband John Ross and other family members. In lieu of flowers please donate to the American Cancer Society, Hospice of San Angelo, or the charity of your choice.
