William Rees Tarn, 70, of San Angelo went to be with the Lord on Saturday afternoon, August 12, 2017 in his home. He left behind a loving wife, a loyal son, and a beautiful family. Bill was born September 9, 1946 in Pittsburgh, PA to William Hewitt and Esther Postgate Tarn. He grew up in Culver City, California where he graduated from High School. He served his country honorably in The United States Army for 6 years including two tours in Vietnam during the war followed by a tour of duty in Nuremberg, Germany where he met and married his first wife Traudl Tarn. Bill and Traudl then moved to west Los Angeles, where they lived together until amicably separating. He worked as an engineer for Hughes Aircraft/Raytheon Corporation until his retirement. During his avionics engineering career, Bill assisted in the development of many classified and some now declassified projects such as the invention of the then groundbreaking technology of the Doppler Radar used in U.S. military aircraft such as the F-15 Strike Eagle. In West LA, Bill met and married his true soulmate Elvia A. Pimentel and they shared their lives together filled with love and happiness blessed by the grace of God for 40 years. Bill and Elvia took her nephew Alvarro Gonzalez in and raised him like a son. In 2006, Bill and Elvia moved to San Angelo. As a hobby and passion, at the young age of 10, Bill became a HAM Radio Operator and enthusiastically engaged in conversations with countless fellow HAMS from all over the world. He also was an avid motorcyclist having biked far and wide across the entire nation and even ventured from Los Angeles to El Salvador. Bill was a firm supporter of the second amendment and a firearms specialist of no small repute. He was a strong man of faith and a lifelong staunch conservative. He devoted his life to his family and friends, God and Country and we will carry him in our hearts forever! Bill was preceded in death by his youngest son Thomas H. Tarn and his parents. He is survived by his loving wife, Elvia P. Tarn, of San Angelo; his son, Christopher Tarn and his wife Anutjarin, of Culver City, Ca; his Sister Ruth Jensen and her husband Steve, of Incline Village, Lake Tahoe, NV; his two Brothers, Robert Tarn and his wife Maria, of Agoura, Ca, and Thomas Tarn and his wife Dora, of Redondo Beach, Ca; and numerous nieces and nephews, other family members and close friends. The rosary will be held at 7:00 P.M., Thursday, August 17, 2017 at Harper Funeral Home Chapel. The Funeral Mass will be at 10:30 A.M., Friday, August 18, 2017 at Sacred Heart Cathedral with Bishop Michael Sis as Celebrant and Father Lorenzo Hatch as Concelebrant. Interment will follow at Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens.
