William Jacob “Bill” Thompson, 76, of San Angelo went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, July 12, 2017 in San Angelo. Bill was born May 20, 1941 in Cumberland, MD to Robert and Maude Bennett Thompson. He grew up in Keyser W. VA. After graduating from High School, Bill served his country honorably for 8 years in the United States Air Force and was stationed in El Centro, CA and in Abilene, TX. He married the love of his life, Beverly Jones on July 6, 1962 and they shared 55 beautiful years of marriage together and raised two sons. Bill and Beverly moved from Baltimore MD and made their home in San Angelo in 1971. He pursued his college degree after moving to San Angelo and graduated from Angelo State University in 1974. Bill was a truck driver by profession and worked for East Texas Motor Freight, which became ABF and later Consolidated Freightways until his retirement in 2001. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather who devoted his life to his family. In his spare time, he enjoyed being outdoors, taking care of things around the house and most of all spending time with his grandchildren. His favorite thing to do with them was to watch them play their sports and go to their games. Bill was a longtime member of Southgate Church of Christ and a great man of faith. His life and legacy of love will live on in our hearts forever and we will dearly miss him! Bill was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife, Beverly Thompson, of San Angelo; his sons, Kevin Thompson and his wife Ann, of Midland, TX, and Brad Thompson, of San Angelo; three Grandchildren, Bryce Thompson, Blaike Thompson and Maddax Thompson. He is also survived by two sisters, Carol Schofield, of Baltimore, MD and Joy Heavener and husband Richard, of Keyser, W. VA. As well as a sister-in- law Pam Jones, of Colleyville, TX, and brother-in-law Kirk Jones, of San Antonio, TX, both of whom he considered family. The Memorial Service will be 10:00 A.M., Saturday, July 15, 2017 at Harper Funeral Home Chapel with Paul Shero officiating. The family would like to extend their sincerest thanks and appreciation to all the Staff at Park Plaza Nursing Center for all of the loving care given to Bill during his stay.
